Gravel & Grapes: Over the Kunkel Pass into Wine Country

This challenging gravel tour starts in Flims and takes you through the scenic Grisons region—past vineyards, castles, alpine lakes, and over the 1,357-metre-high Kunkelspass.

From Flims, the route descends through forest trails to Trin Mulin, offering stunning views of the Rhine Gorge. Quiet gravel paths lead you along the Rhine into the wine-rich Bündner Herrschaft. A short detour to Jenins and Maienfeld offers Mediterranean flair, before reaching Bad Ragaz at the 50 km mark—perfect for a lunch stop.

The climb begins on the old Valenser Landstrasse with views of the Tamina Bridge and Pfäffers. A detour to the historic monastery is optional. The route continues past Mapraggsee lake and up through peaceful mountain roads to Vättis and eventually the summit of Kunkelspass, with panoramic views from Rufichopf.

The descent is steep and requires caution. After returning to Tamins, a short stretch on the cantonal road leads back through Trin and the Flims forest. Cool off with a swim in Lake Cresta and end your ride relaxing at a local café in Flims.
